Welcome to CNHS

History of CNHS

By: Mr. Villaflor E. Espejo

It was a very lucky School Year for the 1st Barangay High School in Cagayan, Division II was established on June 1966. It was named Lasam Experimental Barangay High School by virtue of Resolution # 08, s 1966 by the then Barangay Captain Remigio Pulpulaan. It was renamed Lasam Municipal High School by the SY 1967-1968. Mr. Simeon Rabanal was the Principal.

Unluckily, the school closed by the opening of SY 1968-1969 due to financial problems. Students went to nearby schools like Lasam Academy and some went out to Ilocos while others stopped. This was during the term of Brgy. Captain Ignacio Rabanal.

By that time, transportation going out was difficult. There were no roads connecting to Centro to the barangays of Lasam. People had to walk 14 km just to reach the Poblacion. With that reason, the people decided to put up again the High School in Cabatacan. It was then reopened in August 23, 1970 by virtue of Barangay Resolution #9, s 1970 and was submitted to the Division Office of Cagayan and was approved immediately by the then Superintendent Sabino Acorda.

Mr. Levy I. Lacambra, a Social Studies major was the pioneer teacher of the new Cabatacan Barrio High School. He handled all the subjects except practical arts handled by Mr. Faustino Rosuman, PE, Music and Health by Miss Wilhelmina Agatep of the Cabatacan Elementary School Mr. Benjamin C. Gamiao, the Principal of CES was concurrently the principal of CBHS.

By the SY 1971-72, Mrs. Zenaida Y. Garvida, a Home Economics major was taken in to teach subject in the 1st year because Mr. Lacambra followed his students in their second year. These teachers teach all subjects even if these are not their majors/ minors.

In October 1975, Cabatacan ES was toppled down by a tornado. It has blown away the 11 rooms of CES. The people had remedied to rebuild the building of the torn GI sheets and broken pieces of wood from the remnants. They built the building connected to these rooms to the CBHS school building. CBHS was then occupying the northern part of the school area while CES was occipying the southern part.

When Brgy. Captain Remigio Pulpulaan won the 1976 Brgy. Election, he initiated the construction of the HS building in the former lot of CES. This is now the PTA Building where IA Garments, Agriculture and canteen rooms occupied. This is the 1st building that CBHS had.

During the incumbency of Mayor Eusebio M. Barut in 1977, new Bagong Lipunan School Building was given to CBHS. The funds came from the funds of Assemblymen Juan Ponce Enrile, Antonio Carag, and Alfonso Reyes. This is the 2nd building of CBHS.

The lot was separated from its Mother Title School Lot in the name of Municipality of Lasam with an area of 18, 274 sq.m. The mother lot was divided into two, half area was given to CBHS and the other half to CES. Certificate of Appreciation was given to SB Member Rolando Galang who made the move in the separation of the lot. The school Pergala was also donated by SB Rolando Galang and Family.
